SEA CHANGE
A profound transformation -- Great Valley voters elect five new School Board Directors

In his play The Tempest, Shakespeare described a profound transformation as a "sea change".    The concept itself creates a sense of hope, energy and progress.   Sea change may well describe this week's School Board elections.

Two years ago, a passionate group of residents came together in Great Valley School District and began questioning the effectiveness of our School Board.  These individuals became known as GreatValleyStakeholders.com.

In order to improve our School District, we found that our School Board needed to be:

  • more fiscally responsible with our tax dollars
  • more transparent in their operations
  • more open in communication with the public
  • independent from the Superintendent and staff
  • focused on measurable goals and objectives to improve academic performance

While some in our community perceived these goals as threatening, others embraced them and Stakeholders has continued to grow and attract interest and support among parents, taxpayers, teachers, administrators and some board members.

Yesterday, voters in Great Valley School District sent a message to the community that sea change is upon us.  Voters elected five new individuals to represent their hopes for the more than 4,000 students in Great Valley and our entire community.

We believe the voters have elected a slate of candidates who will work effectively with the new Superintendent and based on our understanding of these individuals from candidate forums and their campaign literature, they are certainly capable of achieving all of these goals and more.

Our best wishes for a successful and smooth transition go out to all of the new board members and our new Superintendent.
