Fiscally Responsible Vote
No exception from PA Act 1 mandated index

January 19 School Board Update

At the January 19 School Board meeting, school board members in attendance (School Director McTear was absent due to illness), voted 6 to 2 not to seek an exception from the PA Act 1 mandated index of no more than a 2.9% increase in taxes.

Directors Carr and Oswald voted against remaining within that index.

By law, the budget GVSD must  present to the School Board will have to be drafted to reflect  expenditures requiring no more than a 2.9% increase in taxes (meaning the actual impact on taxes could be anywhere from 0 to 2.9%).

Further specifics as to the GVSD 2010 budget will be discussed at the Feb 1 School Board Finance Committee meeting.

School Board meetings are to be held February 8 (work session) and February 16 (regular meeting).

Fiscal responsibility, discipline and transparency

Great Valley Stakeholders view last night’s vote as a first step towards the fiscal responsibility and discipline upon which an even better Great Valley education can be built.

Thanks to Dr. Lonoconus for ensuring an appropriate venue to accommodate a very well-attended meeting as well as continuing to post clear and understandable budget documents. This supports our goal of transparency in School Board operations by supplying clear and understandable documentation upon which the School Board Directors will base decisions. Please view those documents at the link below—we trust revised documentation reflecting last night’s vote will soon be available:
