School Board negotiates with Union for new contract
At their December 15, 2008 meeting, the School Board announced that it had negotiated a new “Early Bird” agreement with the teachers union that would take effect for the 2009/2010 school year if the union and the School Board voted to approve it.
The School Board will present details of this tentative agreement at their January 5, 2009 meeting.
What is in the current Teachers Union Contract?
Via the link below, we are providing the current teachers union contract for the public to review in preparation for the information that will be shared by the School Board on January 5, 2009 concerning the proposed new contract.
The Great Valley Education Association (Teachers Union) contract is a public document which was obtained through a Pennsylvania Right to Know Law request.
We believe it is extremely important that the public be aware of the details of this contract in light of the following:
- Salaries and Benefits of employees in the School District make up 65%, or $49 Million, of the total $75 Million Budget of the School District
- The School Board provides the same benefits in the Teacher Contract to many of the School District employees, so the benefits negotiated with the teachers affect more than just the teachers
- The public needs to know what is in the current contract in order to objectively determine what is appropriate for the new contract.
