Great Valley High School has been given a Warning by the Dept. of Education because they did not meet the PSSA requirements for 2009.
The High School failed to meet the Academic Requirements for Special Education in both Mathematics and Reading.
The percentage of students who met the requirements dropped by 13% in Reading and 9% in Mathematics from last year (2008). The percentage who met the requirements in 2009 was 40% in Reading and 23% in Mathematics.
All of the other GVSD schools met the PSSA requirements.
However, the Middle School also did not meet the PSSA requirements for Special Education in both Math and Reading. But, the Middle School was characterized as being in a "Confidence Interval" which means the testing sample may not have been representative of the school across several years. Therefore, they were not warned. Their scores were several points below the required level.
This is the first year that we can recall that any GVSD school has failed to make the PSSA standards. A Warning means that GVHS must meet the standards this coming year or it will be placed in the "School Improvement 1" category and if progress is not achieved after that, they continue to be placed in lower categories.
